In December 2023, Trident Search, a leading cyber security recruitment specialist, was retained by Reliance Cyber, a major MDR service provider, to source a CTO to drive key business decisions and take the company's cyber offering to the next level. After a three-month recruitment cycle, we were pleased to place Lawrence Munro in post.

​In March 2024, Trident Search welcomed expert guests to the Cyber Security Innovation Forum. Having explored several critical external risks in our previous events, we wanted to put the lens on the very real challenges leaders face within their own security architecture. In other words, we looked at the red flags in our industry, how to spot and mitigate them, and crucially, how to avoid them!

We certainly have an understanding of the cyber security challenges facing Operational Technology, but the real crux of the issue is the people challenges in the sector. With such a range of technical expertise required, we’re seeing a real shortage of skilled professionals with good levels of cyber awareness coming through, and this is giving rise to some pretty significant security challenges.

Everywhere you look the phrase “burnout” seems to be mentioned with increasing, and worrying, regularity. Google searches for the term jumped by 81% last year, and the latest nationwide survey found that 35% of us are struggling to balance our workloads with mental and physical wellbeing. So what is causing all this burnout in the cyber security industry, and what can employers do to stop it?

A lot can change in a year. It’s an old cliché but one that still rings true, and even more so when the year in question was one as turbulent as 2023. This time last January we were thrilled to welcome Sam McNaughton and Jasmine Miller to the Trident Search team as key additions to our Cyber Vendors desk. Over the course of the last twelve months, both Jazz and Sam have proven themselves to be invaluable members of the team, landing deals, securing clients and being a huge part of the office culture.
